As part of Columbia College Chicago’s Critical Encounters: Poverty and Privilege initiative, Latino Alliance, Asian Student Organization, International Student Organization, Black Student Union, and CommonGround founded a Coalition of Multicultural Student Organizations. These student organizations have arranged a panel of professors, community activists, and legal experts to discuss the very real effects of laws and policies which are strategically used to discriminate and oppress relationships amongst minorities. Panelists will address privileges denied to racial, immigrant, and sexual/gendered minority communities and families. It is the goal of this panel to enlighten and facilitate an open discussion about how these social issues overlap in order to enhance mutual cooperation and respect.

Its hard to believe that 20 years have passed since the start of Latino Alliance, formerly known as Hispanic Alliance Columbia College, (HACC). To celebrate this momentous occasion, we will be hosting our 3rd annual Dia de los Muertos Gala: Celebrating 20 years of Latino Alliance. On Friday Nov. 2, come out and celebrate with Latino Alliance. All are invited. We are looking forward to meeting the founders of one of Columbia’s most known organizations.

Dear Students:
It is with a mixture of excitement and sadness that I announce that I am leaving Columbia at the end of the month. I have a new job as Executive Director of Latino Initiatives at National-Louis University. Columbia will hire another person for my position. In the mean time, I leave the work in the able hands of Awilda Rodriguez. Please support her as her manages more responsibility and graduate school.
The FOCO Festival is planned as soon as you get back to school. I hope you participate with all the opportunities that we have planned for you!
I wanted to express to all the students what a privilege it has been to work with you for the past 7 years. I leave to all of you a strong Latino Alliance with a long history of meaningful projects and visibility in the college community. We have done some beautiful things together. I want to thank all the student leaders that volunteer their time and talent to make our organization and events the best on campus.
To the Executive Board of Latino Alliance, take care of the organization, learn to work together. Remember how important it is for others to see Latinos serving the community and making a difference. Our presence makes a difference to others, we change lives by our actions.
I will always be supportive of your growth and education. You can always reach out to me at Anamariasoto1@aol.com. Please keep in touch with me. Come see me at National-Louis, it is down the street across the street from the Art Institute.
Know that I care deeply for all of you.
Your Madrina,
Ana Maria
Please pardon our dust while we work hard to bring you a better latinoalliance.net
